More jobs for the British is what I say

Gordon Brown has pledged more jobs for British workers as he seeks to draw a line under a row over the number of migrants employed in the UK.

The prime minister promised more help for the unemployed to fill the 600,000 vacancies he said were available.

It comes after the government admitted it had underestimated the number of migrant workers by as much as 700,000.

I defend EU treaty position , indefensible I know but --------

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has defended his stance on the EU Reform Treaty, saying key opt-outs mean UK law will not be over-ruled by Europe.

Mr Brown told the Commons MPs would be given the chance next year to debate ratification of the treaty whose text was agreed in Portugal last week.

He also said the government would oppose further EU institutional change.

The Tories called for a referendum on the issue and accused ministers of breaking their manifesto commitment.

Cameron says 'look phoney' what a plonker !!

Conservative leader David Cameron has said Gordon Brown looks like "a phoney" as they went head-to-head in their first Commons battle since July.

The clash came with the PM facing claims he "bottled" a snap election and stole Tory policy ideas on tax.

Mr Cameron said the PM was treating people "like fools" by denying opinion polls led him to reject a snap poll.

But Mr Brown pointed to the Tory grammar school row and said he would take "no lectures" from Mr Cameron.

Inheritance taxes cut for couples - We were always going to do this anyway

Chancellor Alistair Darling has doubled the inheritance tax threshold for married couples to £600,000.

He also targeted private equity bosses and "non-domiciles" in his pre-Budget report - and pledged to switch green air taxes to flights, not passengers.

But he was accused by the Tories - who unveiled policies in all these areas last week - of being in a "panic" after their recent opinion poll surge.
